Estrid and Osbert live completely separate lives. One is a woodcutter’s daughter and the other a wizard’s apprentice. But they become joined when Osbert’s mentor is killed by the King for failing to deliver him two dragon eggs instead of one.
Osbert discovers that his mentor’s dying wish was to ensure that the Dragons do not fall into the hands of the King, a wish that now falls to him to complete. However, such a task is almost impossible. The King’s will is the law and Osbert has no power. During this time Estrid is peacefully living her life and when her brother gets married her life changes drastically, prompting her to initiate her own change.
Soon the two encounter each other during the King’s search for the second Dragon and they team up to ensure that he fails.
