It’s super snowy in Utrecht atm and work closed down on Sunday. But fortunately for me I had Saturday, Monday and Tuesday off, so with Sunday added, I had a four day break 🙂 Because everything is cold and miserable with a thick layer of snow I’m stuck inside, setting my laptop up on the kitchen table because it ended up being the warmest part of the house.
On Saturday I spent it adding to a novel that had been on the back burner since ’18. I’m not sure what genre it fits into atm, but maybe magical realism? It’s set in an alternative world with mostly current technology and focuses on a generation of individuals who are descended from a ruling class of people who possessed telepathy and telekineses, but had been massacred by the general population. So far the book is 60k but I’m planning on making it into either two long books or a trilogy. I’m going to finish the entire story first before publication.
On Sunday I spent it doing nothing and felt bad about it. I couldn’t seem to get my head in order and nothing happened.
On Monday I edited a 42 page novella (yes that many pages) that I completed last year. I made up a cover image for it and I think it will be ready for publication in a few more edits. The tag line for this tale is, A supernatural tale of lust and human sacrifice. I think I wrote the entire thing in under a week. It’s divided into five parts instead of chapters and it has a lot of bumping uglies in it lol. I think I might have to alter the end as it is more telling vs showing. But I would not be afraid to publish it as it.
On Tuesday I again did not do anything productive 😦
A while ago I had a baby idea for this YA fantasy story, but at the time I couldn’t think of all the parts that would have gone together. But today I had a someone break through and have thought up a bunch of things to go with it 🙂 So far it’s mostly the beginning, somewhat of a middle and ending. I’m going to have to divide it into parts to make the plot more manageable.

I managed to edit 31 pages of my novella The Things We Do. I have another 10 pages to go, but I’m just too tired. I had already given this story to some people to read a few months ago. They said that they liked it and wanted to know what happened after the book finished. I’m not sure if I want to write a sequel, I don’t have much of an idea of what the next journey will be.
But as I was going over it again, I saw a lot of mistakes. I mean quite a lot. It makes me wonder what my friends thought of my writing. I know one person only managed the first few chapters because they started it stoned and then forgot about it 😦 Thanks for that.

I did nothing but edit Save One for 11 hours today. I started at 8am and finished at 9pm. It has been one of the most productive days in a long while. All up I only did about 30-40 pages. I finished the third draft 🙂
There were times when I was getting distracted by the internet, but I was motivated by the thought of disappointment. It’s a massive motivation, don’t knock it until you’ve imagined yourselves failing. I’m serious.

I edited a few more chapters of Save One. It took me an hour to do one page 😦 I had to re-write who sections and go back and fix them. I think I might have come up with another story idea, but there’s no plot yet just interesting scenes.

I had to re-do my book cover for the print copy of Feet or Fins because it was rejected due to the fact that some of the text was too close to the edge. And I only edited maybe a chapter and a half of Save One 😦
I don’t know exactly why I’m slumping. I have all the time in the world, I know what needs to be done and I can’t seem to do it 😦

The only thing of note I did for my writing is come up with a potential new name for a YA story I have had floating around for the last three years 😦

I gave up trying to finish writing my sci-fi book. Instead, I’m editing Save One for the third time. I found that the first chapter to be pretty decent and I can tell that I’m improving. I’ve been fixated on this story for the last few days, almost like an obsession. I made the book cover for it and I’m hoping to have this draft done by Tuesday. I want it out by March next year.
I also made Feet or Fins and The Backup Girl available in print copy. They should be ready in a few days 🙂 I spent so much time on the creating a cover for them. For The Backup Girl I used the entire stock image on the entire front and back cover. I just couldn’t get the image right for a single page, the DPI was too small. For Feet or Fins I went and remade the book cover because of the DPI. The easier part of the setup was creating the interior book. I used the 5×8 template because those two books are novellas and I was worried that they’d turn out too thin.

I only wrote half a chapter.
Then I went and I played around making a physical copy of my books through CreateSpace.
Then I went and watched a lot of CreateSpace unboxing videos. Those people have better book covers than I do 😦 But then I did all my covers myself.
Less than ten days until I return to Edinburgh.
