I did another draft of my next short story. I’m still trying to pick a name, but that can come later. I’m beyond the structural edits and now just onto line edits. Maybe two more drafts and it might be ready for publication.
It is now 6,277 words and five chapters long. It involves two sisters going to a witch’s commune seeking help and while there they discover the magical room created by the founder that has been closed off for generations. The genre is YA and a bit of semi-medieval fiction. It’s set in a medieval type world, but no exact time and location are given (think some time ago).
Currently, I’ve got this new space adventure idea churning in my head. The main novel, which I’m planning on calling Fine Tune, is still forming in my mind. But I’ve already written just under 12,000 words for a prequel. So far the two books will be under the banner name of ‘Odine King’s Space Adventures‘. The genres of the series are sci-fi, young adult, paranormal and space adventure.
The prequel is more thriller and mystery because of the main character, Odine King, is in the process of learning to utilize her psychic powers. Initially, she goes into a psychic research study with the hopes of finding her father’s killer. He’s been missing just under a year and things are not looking good. However as her powers begin to grow and she starts to control them, the story takes a darker turn as another ghost makes contact with her. This begins her journey of amateur detective in the cold case of a missing, presumed dead young woman.
I’m not sure how many more words it will be, but I think I’m about 1/2 to 2/3 complete for a draft 🙂
I’m working on another novella. It’s not exactly dystopian, but it has a lot of elements of it. It’s set in a futuristic world on foreign planets that have recently been involved in civil unrest and conflict. The story follows Lone Honora, a young adult who as a child escaped the civil war on her home planet of Vauban and moved to a neighboring planet called Nova Vita. But due to the political climate she and her family have been reduced to boarder-line second class citizens as they attempt to rebuild their lives. With the onset of her mother’s cancer diagnosis, which is not covered by the Nova Vita government, Lone resorts to stealing from her workplace to fund it.
Then she gets caught and is sent to jail. Once there she finds that she is losing control of her life it starts to fall apart. And then life begins to take a even worse direction. A secret, her long held secret appears to resurfacing. A secret that will destroy what is left of her precious life.
I’m writing a new story. Vomited about 8,000 words so far. It feels very good 🙂 At the moment it’s something along the lines of a sci-fi dystopian new adult story about a young woman who is suffering the consequences of being product of a terrorist plot. I’m at the seventh chapter now 🙂
